From Gregorian Chant to troubadours, opera, Broadway, jazz, folk, pop; the genius of Cole Porter, the experimentalism of The Beatles. Humans have been writing and singing songs since we first opened our mouths to cry.
Songs have been used to inspire movements, deliver messages, distract and entertain, spread political agendas. Some songs have saved lives; some have had the opposite affect. It’s an art form that everyone enjoys, but few truly appreciate. Come and be enlightened and have loads of fun too!

About the presenter

Rita has a Bachelor's Degree in Music & Writing as well as qualifications in Advertising and Training & Assessment. For many years she convened a songwriting workshop, has co-written songs that have been recorded and appeared on a children's show and in a film. She currently works as a freelance writer, noting a distinct similarity between the skill of writing short copy and writing song lyrics.
