Get inspired, fuel your creativity and expand your writing skills all in this single fun writing workshop. Bring pen & paper and get ready to write! You will leave this class feeling renewed and confident in your writing abilities, and keen to apply what you’ve learnt to your own projects. Discover how to write fascinating characters and vivid settings, develop your writer’s voice, understand structure, and practice your editing skills. No matter what your preferred writing genre or level, this workshop will deconstruct, improve and stimulate the way you write.

Learn advanced writing tools such as
1. contrived and false suspense
2. info-dumping
3. backstory
4. story structure
5. character arcs

Get inspired as we write a micro-story to a set structure, and develop our characters with imagination and lateral thinking. Explore your individual writing style and discover what’s needed to develop it further. All this and more in a friendly, supportive atmosphere lead by a Ditmar Award-winning author.

About the presenter

Zena Shapter is a Ditmar award-winning author, creative writing tutor and mentor, freelance editor, copywriter and social media consultant. She has won ten national writing competitions and is published in magazines such as "Midnight Echo" and anthologies such as "Award-Winning Australian Writing". She writes close-to-reality books of the unexplained and adventures that get you thinking. She also founded and leads the widely attended Northern Beaches Writers' Group, whose collaborative writing has also won multiple awards. Read her through the links on her website at
