Easily the most challenging and rewarding of the photography outcomes are found in the street and documentary genres of photography.
This course goes way beyond providing theory and visual content on street and documentary photography. Class sessions incorporate image critique, encouragement feedback and peer review on your submitted images, and provides the focus points on imaging quality that drive motivation for achievement to excellence in your photographic body of work. This course is suitable for photographers of all levels seeking to consolidate and extend their photography.
During this course the following topics will be covered, but not necessarily in the order given.
The masters Atget, Maier, Koudelka, Frank et al.
Documentary sub-genres street photography, social and humanitarian documentary
Candid vs. traditional vs. environmental portraiture
Compositional upskilling critical elements of imaging
Image impact - single and series images
Approaching people, permissions, ethics, consent, legal issues and the photographer imperative
Covert and overt techniques of street photography
Black & white vs. colour imaging outcomes
Documentary story telling
Displaying a story sequencing and editing refining the narrative
Contemporary documentary photographers Salgado, Janson-Moore, Mason, Jerrems, Lewis, Parke, Rheims et al.
Assignments for ideas, projects and personal field shoots
Individual image critique, and peer feedback and review sessions
Publishing your body of work exhibitions, books, magazines, online portfolios etc.
How is your photography progressing? Are you firing on all cylinders,
or do you need a massive injection of inspiration and focus?
It is a constant challenge, to maintain the drive, and seek new sources of momentum. This course challenges your imaging status and extends your photographic boundaries.
A DSLR camera or equivalent
Reasonable camera skills are required for this course and while the course fully utilises the capacity of DSLR cameras, any camera is acceptable to use.
Photo prints to be discussed during class (approx. cost $20 - $40 depending on quality).
About the presenter
Richard is a photographer with Imaging Vision niche blending street and fine art photography, specialising in Adobe Lightroom and empowering creatives through exhibition production management with Urban Collective.
He is a current member and event organiser of the Sydney Street Photographers Meetup group, and organiser of the Adobe Lightoom Meetup group.
Richard is pursuing new career directions into the photographic, digital imaging and creative arts industries and has recently completed a Diploma of Photo Imaging at CATC Design School in The Rocks and Ultimo.
He has recently exhibited photographic works in 2014 and 2015 in The Rocks, Sydney.
