Gain a sound knowledge of officers' and directors' duties in this workshop designed for anyone from the community or not-for-profit sector interested in finding out more about governance and why it is necessary for their organization.
Current developments in this sector will be discussed as well as examples provided of how it has been used in Australia and how it is relevant to you. The following subject matter will be discussed:
* Governance Law
* Duties of directors and officers
* Managing governance obligations
* Due diligence
* Compliance programs
* Governance principles and key recommendations
* Examples of good and bad governance

About the presenter


Keith Whelan

I have worked for several national and local newspapers as well as freelancing and have been teaching creative writing for the past eight years in Ireland and Australia.

Amongst the libraries I have taught in are Wyong Shire Council, Cessnock City Council, The Hills Council, Hornsby Council, Burwood Council, Holroyd Library, Ashfield Library, Warringah Library City of Ryde Council and Port Stephens Council.

I have also conducted a Creative Writing as part of the John Hopkins CTYI Programme in the University of Limerick, Ireland as a ten week course and also as part of the curriculum at the Centre for Adult Education at the University of Limerick.

The course has also been included in several Library Programmes for Children's Book Festival and Writer's Weeks in Ireland. I also teach at the University of Sydney - Centre for Continuing Education, WEA Hunter, Central Coast Community College, Hornsby/Kur-un-gai Community College, Kur-un-gai Arts Centre, Newcastle Museum and Tuggerah Lakes Community College
