In this course you’ll be guided by a well-established artist, who will introduce you to and develop your understanding of the still life. You can work in either oils or watercolour and be guided to a better understanding of both mediums with practical exercises. You’ll learn step-by-step the art of colour mixing, composition, and wash and brush skills to build your own contemporary and unique style
Oils are a fantastic medium for any artist. They offer great flexibility and an ease of manipulation that can produce a wide range of varied effects and allow for a huge range of expressive styles. If you haven’t tried it, you really should!
Watercolour is one of the artist’s most delicate mediums. The way the pigment responds on your paper is intimately linked to your personal emotional response to your subject.
You do not need a lot of materials but they need to be well chosen in order to give a good painting experience. Please do not go shopping before the course as the materials will be discussed in the first lesson. If you already have some materials, do bring them along and we can see if there are any added items that you may need. This course is suitable for total beginners as well as experienced painters.
Karl is very passionate about fine art and how appreciation of it can enrich your soul. His practical lessons and conveyance of technique have been of great use to me (an amateur artist) in problem solving using the medium.
Please do NOT buy materials prior to the course - the selection of materials is critical and will be discussed in the first class. Please bring what materials you have to see what additional materials you may need. If you have no materials at all, please bring pencil and paper for making notes.
